Treasure Island Pre-School
Registered with Ofsted

'Treasure Island' runs two different types of session - one for Little Treasures (children who have reached their second birthday), and the other for older children (starting at 2 ½ or 3 yrs of age).

Little Treasures can be a useful 'stepping stone' for children between attending a Parent and Toddler Group with an adult and attending a pre-school or other facility for 2 ½ hours or longer without their 'own adult'.  We can take children still 'in nappies'.

Little Treasures sessions run for 1 hr 45 mins, and the staffing ratio is at least 1 adult to 4 children.  Occasional help by the parent/carer is very welcome but is optional, since Little Treasures often provides adults with a needed break and perhaps a chance to do other things.

Little Treasures provides all sorts of activities for the children - some daily, some weekly, some termly, etc.  Children are free to explore activities at their own pace and learn through play, whilst adults help children individually and collectively to extend their learning.

Those who come to the Treasure Island sessions for older pre-school children get used to being away from their 'own adult' for longer periods (of 2 ½ hrs or 3 ¾ hrs).  Children are prepared to go to the Infant School where they will continue with the Early Years Foundation Stage of education that begins in pre-school.  Children will usually be 'out of nappies'.

The staffing ratio is usually at least 1 adult to 6 children.  The cost of up to 5 x 2 ½ hr sessions per week in term-time is met by the Nursery Education Grant (NEG) payable from the start of the traditional term following a child's 3rd birthday.

Each child should have a parent/carer who will join the rota of helpers once per half term.  Alternatively, a small extra charge will be payable.

The children learn mostly through play, with free and structured time.  Their development and learning in all areas of the curriculum is helped by the staff and their use of the Development Matters towards Early Learning Goals.

Treasure Island with Little Treasures is run under the management of the Elim Church.
